- 1 Frying Pan
Ingredients
- 1 cup of roasted semolina suji
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 tomato finely chopped
- 1 green chili finely chopped
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger grated
- 1/2 teaspoon of mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida hing
- 1 sprig of curry leaves
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- Salt to taste
- Water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Fry for a few seconds until the mustard seeds start to pop.
- Add onions, green chili, ginger, and curry leaves. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and slowly add the roasted semolina while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat until the water is absorbed and the Upma is cooked.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
